It sits in the menu bar, detects when a call begins in Zoom, Teams, Meet, Slack, FaceTime or the browser, and records both sides of the conversation. TinyScribe transcribes with Apple's SpeechAnalyzer locally on your Mac. Summaries are created with Apple Intelligence Private Cloud Compute. Your audio never leaves your Mac, and the transcript is never sent to any third-party AI. No API key, no model download.

Recording starts and stops automatically, or manually with one click. A red dot in the menu bar shows for as long as a recording runs. Microphone and system audio are kept apart in the transcript, and individual apps can be excluded from automatic recording.

Transcripts and summaries become context for your AI: TinyScribe ships an MCP server, so Claude and Claude Code can reach your meetings directly. Meetings go into the index for Siri and Spotlight, any transcript or summary can be copied as Markdown with one click, and everything exports as Markdown, PDF, rich text or audio.

TinyScribe talks to no external server other than your own iCloud. No account, no training on your data. Audio stays on your Mac and can be deleted automatically after a period you choose.

TinyScribe is written in Swift and SwiftUI and is under 10 MB. The download is free, the app can be tried for 30 meetings, then a one-time purchase is required. The app requires macOS 27 and Apple silicon. Summaries need Apple Intelligence and an internet connection. The app also works within the EU.

TinyScribe launches with macOS 27: a privacy-focused meeting notetaker

Munich, September 14, 2026. Appdafür GmbH today released TinyScribe, a meeting notetaker for Mac that records calls automatically, transcribes them on the device and summarizes them with Apple Intelligence. TinyScribe is available on the Mac App Store, free for the first 30 meetings and a one-time purchase of $79.99 after that. There is no subscription and no account.

TinyScribe is a menu bar app. It records calls in all meeting tools such as Zoom, Teams, Meet, Slack and FaceTime, and in the browser, automatically. No bot joins the meeting. Transcription runs entirely on the Mac using Apple's SpeechAnalyzer, which supports 24 languages. Summaries with topics, decisions and action items are created through Apple Intelligence Private Cloud Compute, where Apple stores nothing and uses no data for training.

The app is built for macOS 27 and requires it. It is one of the first Mac apps to use Private Cloud Compute. It is fully integrated into the Apple ecosystem: meetings can be found through Spotlight search, and Siri can access them. App Intents make them available in Shortcuts, and a built-in MCP server lets AI tools such as Claude Desktop and Claude Code access them on the same Mac.

"I wanted the notetaker I would still be using in ten years: bought once, native and unobtrusive," says Michael Kugler, founder of TinyScribe. "With macOS 27 everything was finally in place to build it without a server of our own. That is how meetings stay truly private."

TinyScribe is a native Mac app in Swift and SwiftUI, under 10 MB, sandboxed and available exclusively through the Mac App Store. Sync between several Macs runs through the user's own iCloud; audio never leaves the Mac it was recorded on and can be deleted automatically after a chosen period. The interface is available in ten languages. The app also works within the EU.

About the founder

Michael Kugler has been building apps for fifteen years. In 2013 he co-founded Appdafür GmbH, an app development studio in Munich, with Daniel Leberle, a friend from university. TinyScribe grew out of his own frustration with meeting notetakers that either ran on somebody else's servers or cost money every month. With macOS 27, Apple's reworked SpeechAnalyzer and Private Cloud Compute made it possible to build the app the way he had pictured it: no server of his own, no API keys, no model downloads. The longer story is on the About page.
